Watch Videos

Virtually all programmes broadcast on the Teachers TV channel can be played or downloaded from our website. If you're having problems getting a video to play, or you need some help with downloading, please take a look at the information below.

Play videos online

Flash has become the standard for video on the web over the last couple of years and offers potential levels of interactivity that Windows Media cannot. It also offers improved quality in both picture and sound

You will need version 8 or later of the Flash plug-in installed to make full use of the video player options. Here's a link to download the latest free Flash Player

To play a video, go to the relevant programme page and hit the play button that sits in the centre of the programme image. You may have to wait a few seconds for some of the video to download (buffer) before it begins to play.

Once a video begins to play, roll your cursor over the video to access the playback controls. Use these controls to skip back and forth to various points within the video, control your volume, play/pause, or expand your video to full screen.

Please note, if you do not have Flash installed, you automatically see our videos in the previous Windows Media format.

Download videos

All videos that can be downloaded on our site are available in Windows Media Video (.wmv) format and some newer videos in QuickTime (.mov) format.

If you would like to download a video you must first register with Teachers TV.

Once registered, log in to the website and go to a programme page. Locate either the Windows Media or the QuickTime button to the right of the programme image, right-click the button and select Save Target/Link As to download the file to your computer. The files can be quite large and may take several minutes to download.

Some videos are unavailable to view or download on the website. This will be stated next to the programme information and will be due one of two reasons:

  • Licensing or legal agreements
  • TV transmission times - videos are available online once they have been broadcast on the television channel

Media Players

Most videos on can be watched online through our Flash Video Player. All downloadable videos are available in Windows Media format, with more recent videos also available to download in QuickTime. Icons on each programme page will indicate which of these download options are available.

Over 90 per cent of our audience have the Flash Player 8 (or later) installed. If you do not have the Flash Player installed or you don't have JavaScript enabled then the usual Windows Media Player will be displayed as default.

Connection speed

Your connection speed will affect the amount of time it takes to download a video to your computer. In addition, video file sizes will vary according to programme length. Downloading a video should take a several minutes with a broadband connection - if you are using dial-up, your video will take a several minutes or even hours to save.

Troubleshooting

From time to time you may experience difficulties playing a video. If this happens, your web connection may be faulty or there could be a problem at our end. A quick way to establish where the fault lies is to try to access similar video service.

If you can access other video sites without issue and believe the problem to lie with Teachers TV, please Contact Us and will we will be happy to try and rectify the problem.

If you are unable to access video content from either our site or others, it may be that:

  • There is a fault with your computer
  • There is a fault with your internet connection
  • Your computer is protected by a firewall

Please note that on some slower machines, scrolling the page rapidly up and down while a video is playing may cause the video window to behave erratically or to stop playing entirely. This is a known issue relating to Windows Media Player.
