Synopsis

This programme looks at The National Programme for Specialist Leaders of Behaviour and Attendance - a course which provides practical strategies for dealing effectively with poor pupil behaviour.

The one-year course is open to any staff who come into contact with pupils and is designed to spread good practice in changing challenging behaviour.

Learning mentor Lisa Robertson from Washington School in Tyne and Wear is part way through the course, while science teacher Kathryn Forster from Southmoor Community School has recently completed the qualification.

Lisa is seen leading an intercessional activity with a group of pupils described by an assistant head as "the worst offenders" in behaviour terms and feeding back to her mentor on the school's leadership team.

Course graduate Kathryn Forster speaks about how the qualification has increased her confidence when confronted by poor behaviour, and how she has managed to implement some of its techniques across the whole school.

NPSLBA Learning pyramid

The learning pyramid looks an excellent idea. Is there any chance of having a closer look at the detail?

Behaviour Strategies

As an NQT doing supply work across a number of schools, developing behaviour management strategies that can be used across a variety of year groups is essential. I was very interested in the learning pyramid and think it looks like an excellent tool. It would be useful to be able to see it in more detail and how it is used.

Behaviour strategies

A really interesting snapshot, and I too would like to see the learning pyramid in close up

Behaviour Strategies

I would not only like to see the learning pyramid in close up but, better still, obtain a colour copy of it.

The learning pyramid and strategies

Where were the challenging behaviours? They were off-camera. It's the day-to-day grind in the classroom I'd like to see addressed by a video, showing experienced teachers keeping a difficult group 'on task.' As usual, too much talking about and not nearly enough how to. The poster looks pretty from a distance. B

changing challenging behaviour

I agree that the challenging behaviour was off-camera but the little darlings don't perform to order. I was concerned with the mentor's language at the start of the clip referring to some pupils as "worst offenders". They are not criminals. Pleased to see that good behaviour and attendance were identified as essential for learning.

I've spread the word about Teachers TV by helping out on the stand at the Education Show, Birmingham. I was able to share with Teachers TV directors my opinions about what sorts of programmes should be made. Thanks for the opportunity.
